Insurance

A request to use the University travel insurance policy can be made for overseas volunteering projects where:
  • The University is the organiser and has either joint or full responsibility for the project;
  • The project has been approved by the Volunteering and Community Engagement Team;
  • The students meet the requirements for the insurance (i.e. they will be registered students at the time of the trip).

The organiser should contact the Insurance Office early during the planning stages to make the request and discuss feasibility.

Where the project is organised by an external organisation, students are expected to get their own travel insurance in line with guidance from the host-organisation.

Public Liability insurance

We recognise that not all volunteer-sending organisations will have public liability insurance for their overseas projects but do encourage it. Please speak to the Volunteering and Community Engagement Team who will be able to provide information and advice on best practice.
