Policies and processes
The University has a number of systems to help you with the various policies and procedures required for running overseas opportunities. A volunteering policy should provide a framework for the volunteering project. The specific details will depend on the nature of the project and could include:
- The role of volunteers
- Recruitment, induction and support
- Equal opportunities
- Health and safety
- Data protection
- Safeguarding
The partner organisation may already have policies in place that could be used or developed for use with the project.
It may also be appropriate to have a volunteer agreement outlining what the volunteers can expect from the project, and what is expected from them in return. The nature of this will depend on the type of volunteering activity taking place, the local culture and context, and any requirements of the host organisation.
The Volunteering and Community Engagement Team can provide information and advice on developing suitable policies for overseas volunteering projects.
